I grew up watching dictators take over newly independent countries in Africa, South America and the Middle East. But Qaddafi was one of a kind: crazy, shrewd and brutal, not to mention the most colorful tyrant in the 20th and 21st century. My husband once called him the ‘ultimate metro-sexual’ for the elaborate, yet strangely stylish, outfit he wore on a UN visit. He was one of those notorious world figures who came in and out of focus but always seemed to be there. Just when you asked ‘whatever happened to Qaddafi?’ or ‘Hey, do you remember if Qaddafi’s dead or not?’ , he’d do something outrageous to make his presence known.
The following video shows Libyans celebrating his demise.
